Gapminder Screencast and Analysis

Part 1:     a. For set #1 I chose the statistics services (which include jobs like government , financial services, and healthcare) measured in percent of GDP,  and income measured in GDP/capita.  GDP per capita takes the gross domestic product of a country and divides it by the number of people , measured in dollars per person. The development indicators I chose for set #2 were HDI or human development index and child mortality measured in 0-5 years dying per 1,000 born.
b. A country that is more economically developed will have more labor in the services sector.  To work in the services sector the workers must have a certain level of education this also means that countries with more people working in this sector offer more educational opportunities. GDP per capita can realate exactly to economic development. This country will be producing more money meaning the higher the GDP per person, the higher the economic development of the country. The HDI of a country can represent the people's education, health and living standard. When these are considered high the country is then resulted in being more economically developed. Child mortality can be caused by many different issues and concerns. some of these may include sanitation, diseases, and lack of education of health care. All of these factors would result in a country with a low economic develpoment.

Part 2:   a. b.  In set # 1 in the 1980's  it is clear to see that the majority of Europe and Eastern Asia and North and Central America are ahead in services and in income per person. This could be a result of  the countires being involved in mechanization and technologies. They are highly developed and have a good education that supports that services that makes incomes and GDP per capita high. In the early 1990's , China is the country with the lowest services , and one of the countries with the lowest GDP per capita. This could've been because of some ecomomic troubles they were going through at the time or since China is very involved in industry it would bring the services down and result in lower wages.  In the 1990's, unlike the majority of Europe, Ukraine has the lowest GDP per capita and services in its continent. This could be due to internal cultural conflicts within the country resulting in some marauding or run down in sanitation, people losing their jobs ect... .   You can see that from 2004 to 2006 Ethiopia moves from being the high in  services to low, continuously. This may be due to perks of wars going up or down or the dropping from lack of acess to sanitation, goods and services ( health care, ect.. ). Up until the 2000's a lot of Saharan African countries were falling in HDI most likely due to unawareness, and lack of access to preventative supplies from the HIV and other disease. In the 1990's  Afghanistan began decreasing , but experienced a rapid increase and rise beginning in 2000. This could be in part to the show up of the organizations, including the U.N., UNICEF and so on , giving help to the people who need supporting. Since 1980's many countries, have been improving their infant mortality rate, and moving up in HDI . For example India. Haiti's IMR or infant mortality rate in 2009 increased significantly most likely to the natural disasters. The correlation to income per capita very closely to infant mortality rate, because the sub-Saharan Africa countries have less conectivity and technology and industrialization in countries with less GDP per capita causing the infant mortality rate to rise and continue to rise.

Analysis

The countries I predict will come together are China and Siberia. China and Siberia are both located on the east side of Asia by the Pacific ocean. Siberia is the eastern part of Russia just north of China. The country I thought would seperate is Canada. Cananda is the most northern part of North America. The part I think will break off from Canada is Quebec. Quebec is on the eastern side of Canada with the east coast of the United States just south of it.

There is a series of reasons why Siberia and China may merge to create one large east Asia country. To start things off there are many Chinese citizens who have moved to Siberia and live there now. The immigration of Chinese has increased because of trading between the two countries.Farmers have also been migrating there for arigultural reasons. Siberia is also an advantage for China because they would recieve more coastal land for imports and exports and avoiding pirates near the Middle East. Lastly China's population density is high and the joining of Siberia would encourage more spreading of the population. The counrty I chose to divide is Canada. Religion may play a role in this as most of Quebec is Catholic and the other parts of Canada are protetsant but I imagined Canada parting because of the major language barrier between Quebec and the remaining of Canada. Quebec speaks French because of French colonization but the rest of Canada mostly speaks English. Even though Canada is doing very well economically and is a MDC the difference between the language is what is pulling them apart. If Quebec breaks off both Canada and Quebec can keep their culture living.

The new boarders that would form with Siberia and China would go around Mongolia. They would form a perforated state with Mongolia as its enclave. This new boundarie that would be created could be argued as geometic because of an arch made by the seperation of Russia which does not necessarily follow a cultural of physical difference or trait. The boundarie that would exist after Qebec's independence would definitely be considered cultural because of the major language difference.

The merging of China and Siberia was so China could use that land for farming, resources and spreading of population. Chinese would then be using land that Russians weren't using as much. China gaining Siberia could end up with more expansion into Russia pushing it westward. The ethnocultural factor for Canada and Quebec to split was based on the language diversity of the two places. This independence won't cause any more disputes about language and sovereignty. The only thing that could be consided a downside is it could effect other provinces in that area to also want to split from Cananda.

                        Percent Female Census Map Analysis

The map I created is called Percent Female from the 2010 U.S. census. The map shows the percentage of females in every county in the United States. A pattern I noticed was that the females seem to be clustered in the southeastern area . Particularly Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas. The lowest percentages and where the females seem less likely to be is in the western part of the U.S. like Colorado, Wyoming, Utah Nevada, and Idaho. The highest percentage of females is 56.8% while the lowest was 27.9%. The average percent was in the high 40’s and low 50’s which means that overall the amount of females and males in each county in the U.S. are approximately even.

There are many different reasons why the clusters of women seem to be more in the southeastern area and less in the western area. One reason I believe in is because of when the settlers first came in. They first came to the East side of the U.S. and then moved to the west. I think the population of women are still in that process of starting in the east and moving their way to the west. Another reason is the population density is high in the eastern and southern area. In general there are more people in those regions which means that there will be more women in those counties than the counties in the western region.

Having more women in one location then another can make a big difference in how things work. It can affect the communities in many ways. For example the politics could be be more dominant trowd female leaders or the working field could change because of the abilities women have. Also they could be a higher fertility rate because more women are able to have children. Overall the Percent Female map can explain to us more about female distribution over the United States and from that we can assume things like how and why they are in certain areas.
